So this post is dedicated to one of my most favorite musicals, Wicked. It's truly a Broadway sensation. Seriously, who ever thought that a Broadway winner would ever emerge from an over-popular film and musical (Wizard of Oz)? I think that in all other cases, it would have been overkill. Kind of like how the movie Oz: The Great and Powerful, is racking up over $212 million at the box office. So what is this obsession with Oz that truly none of us even knew we had?? Wonder what else they're going to come up with while this Oz fascination continues world-wide. Frankly, I'm loving it. Back to Wicked.
I listened to the music for years, and always wanted to see it performed, but plans never seemed to work out. I either didn't have friends who wanted to see it when I was free, or friends who were planning to see it when I was busy. It was a whirlwind. The first Broadway show I saw was the Lion King and ASU's Gammage theatre. Amazing. Then I saw my most favorite musical ever, Phantom. Double amazing. SO you all can imagine how excited I was when I half-heartedly suggested to my boyfriend 4 months ago that I wanted to see it. I knew my boyfriend would watch musicals with me, but I didn't expect him to be so excited, too. I cannot believe how blessed I am to have found a man who will not only watch, but ENJOY musicals with me as well. From December until March, the "If" of seeing Wicked started driving me crazy. There were always financial things that popped up just in the nick of time so that I could not buy the tickets. I could've actually just bought the cheapest seats, but I was stubborn and only wanted great seats, or I was not going at all. Not sure how I would've pulled it off without my tax return, but I ended up getting a car AND spending over two hundred bucks on Wicked in the same week. I felt super accomplished =)
So on Friday March 29, after waiting 5 years, I finally got to see Wicked! I drove 4 hours, spent a lot of money, and every penny was ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT. The only negative thing I would say about the experience is that Tuscon Music Hall is kind of deceiving. The theatre is a lot smaller than they make it seem. If I had originally known that, I would not have spent as much money, and probably would have been only a couple rows further back. This had never been the case when I went to Gammage at ASU; there, you pay for what you get. So, even though that was a tiny downer, it's better safe than sorry. I can't regret it too much because those actors deserved my money. Glinda and Elphaba were outstanding. The thing I loved most about this particular show was, surprisingly, Glinda. I have always had a negative vibe towards anyone who plays Glinda, because I think Kristen Chenoweth is the epitome of that character. Her voice is so quirky that I didn't see anyone ever matching that. This Glinda was so amazing, and literally stole everyone's hearts with her solo "Popular." She started off kinda funny, then the audience slowly built her up, and pretty soon the entire audience was going crazy!! She did such an amazing job, and my boyfriend and I were laughing so hard! I personally loved Elphaba at the end of "Defying Gravity" and "No Good Deed", her last belts were so pure and strong. It takes some talent to match those songs with just amazing acting, which is what Glinda did. She made everyone laugh just as much as Elphaba made everyone cry. It was the perfect unison to make a perfect show.
Ironically, I'm kind of glad that I had to wait so long. I was recently in Children of Eden at my community college this spring, and I think being in that show and then seeing Wicked made me appreciate Stephen Schwartz even more. Children of Eden has some beautiful music, but Wicked is really Schwartz at his best. Here are some pictures of us at the show! This is by far my favorite dress for right now, so I'm going to show it off a little =)

What I've been up to....
I'm now charging for portraits done! Want one drawn for you or for someone else? Simply click here for more information on contacting me and the pricing!
So why the sudden "side business"? Up until this semester, I generally had a lot of time on my hands. I love drawing for my friends and relatives and randomly surprising them with a drawing. If I could sit and draw for most of the day, I would. But that's not getting me anywhere in life. I've started college this semester, so along with taking 14 credits/being a full-time student and working a part-time job, there is not a lot of time for me to be drawing! Time is very precious, and recently my time spent drawing for others has felt like a waste. I would spend 6 hours on a drawing for a friend, pour my heart into it, and have them not care at all or even ask for a copy of the drawing. Nope, this isn't a "woe is me!" moment, it's simply my realization that I don't want to waste an entire Saturday for someone who is not going to appreciate my time and effort spent.
This hit me pretty hard when I was at a store making a copy of a drawing, and a mom walked by with her son and asked if I had drawn the drawing. She asked if I had a business card, and that totally took me by surprise. After getting all my information, she told me she wanted me to draw her son, and she was willing to pay a good amount.
Huh! This got me thinking that maybe my drawings are worth a little bit more than the $5-10 price I had before. Quite honestly, I know I have talent...I acknowledge that fact, people have been trying to tell me that for years; I just always thought it was prideful for me to agree. It's still just hard for me to believe that my actual skill is worth the amount of money I'm asking for. I do know, however, that my effort is worth the money. I will work on a drawing for 2 hours straight, mess up, throw it away, and start all over again until it looks like the photo I'm drawing it from. Just some thoughts to catch everyone up on what I've been doing recently! Remember, God gave you a talent for a reason! Use it! =)

Pause!
Sorry for the zero recent updates! With just graduating high school and then having to enroll in college and set up all of my classes within 2 weeks' time.... there hasn't been much time for me to work on my artwork! However, I do have 2 or 3 drawings waiting to be posted on to here. Sadly, I have no camera or scanner this week. So BEAR WITH ME, I will post drawings next week! =) Thanks everyone!
