James Dean =)

Oh James Dean; I love that guy. I became addicted to his 3 movies this year, and addicted to his gorgeous face! =) I love drawing pictures from around the 50's, and wanted a change from female portraiture, so I actually had a few pictures of Elvis, Jimmy Stewart, Rudolph Valentino, and Gregory Peck lined up. But James Dean was the obvious choice. He's really fun to draw because he was in his early 20's at this time, but had such a unique facial structure that almost made him look older, but timeless as well. SO here it is! Done in colored pencil. I made his features a little too strong, and I accidentally made his hair more of a light auburn than dirty blonde. But overall, I am proud of it.

Oil Pastel

Oil Pastel still might be my favorite medium to draw with, probably because I drew with crayons all the time when I was little! It's a very easy medium to use when you need a lot of layers, but it can be very difficult with detailed drawings.

I took both of these pictures when we were on vacation in Washington at Christmastime. The one of my sister was taken at a park, and the bench was somewhere in Seattle. The bench was done in Oil Pastel, and the one of my sister was done in colored pencil.

Still Life

A Still Life was something I was introduced to Fall of 2009. I had only drawn from pictures off the computer before. Here's "Autumn Still Life", my first attempt at a still life ever. This was assigned in my Art class. Both of these were done in Pastel.

Here's one I did by myself just for fun last month:

This one I titled "Back to the 50's". I saw this Marilyn Monroe picture and originally drew it for my sister, who loves Marilyn. For this, I only used black, white, grey, and blue colored pencils.

Audrey Hepburn

This one was a real challenge for me to draw. I didn't have colored pencils at the time, so I just improvised and used watercolor pencils. They're pretty much the same thing, as long as you don't blend with water.

I liked the classic pose mixed with the tomboy haircut, but the colors were a little too dull for me.

I wanted to get the elegance down, but add strong color to her lips, eyes, and the entire background.
